4 Things We All Hate About ERP and How Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central Fixes Them

Updated: Aug 10, 2021

In the past most ERP software shared a lot of the same good qualities but lacked innovation, and if you wanted innovation you had to pay for customizations. Thankfully things have begun to change with Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central. Here's 4 things we hate about ERP that Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central has fixed.

Happy person using Business Central

Having to use multiple platforms

In the past you'd get an email in your Outlook mail client asking you to update the quantity on a recent sales quote from 4 to 5. You would then either launch your current ERP software or switch from Outlook to the already opened ERP software and update the quote never realizing the time lost between switching and launching a different platform. Microsoft Dynamics 365 solves this issue by integrating with your Office 365 Outlook client. Now when you get the email asking you to switch the quantity on a sales quote from 4 to 5 Outlook and Business Central recognize this and a Business Central window is launched within Outlook allowing you to edit the sales quote and save you time.

Lost information

In what seems to be a standard feature on most ERP software, clicking save after you have created or edited a page, may not be the standard feature you want. I've heard countless complaints of users entering information and accidentally clicking off the page without saving and loosing the information they just entered. Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central takes a different approach to this by placing more value on the information entered than other ERP software. Once your information is entered on a field within a page that information is automatically saved. There's no more worrisome nights spent pondering whether or not you saved your information from earlier. Now you know you did.

Customization Difficulties

You just had your go live and your ERP software is fine tuned and ready to go. However, on the first day you discover that you would really like to see Account Category on your Chart of Accounts. What do you do? In the past you'd call your ERP Software provider and they would quote you a price to add a custom field on your page and you would either decline or agree to pay for the customization. Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central solves this issue by letting you personalize pages. When you choose to personalize a page by selecting to add a field a column pops up on the right hand side showing you all different fields that can be dragged into position. This is simple and very cost beneficial for the user.

Lack of Keyboard Shortcuts

The goal is to not remove your fingers from your keyboard when working to maximize your time. If you have to use your mouse you're wasting time. Most ERP software available for purchase lacks the keyboard commands to help you increase your productivity. Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central is continually adding keyboard shortcuts their repertoire. Have a look at this image that shows a few of the current keyboard shortcuts available for use in Business Central.
