It's time to Upgrade your Dynamics GP to Business Central

Updated: Aug 16, 2021

Ever since the release of Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central, Dynamics GP customers and partners began questioning the software’s future and rightfully so. Now, I don’t know what the future holds for GP or any other Microsoft software for that matter, but when looking over GP’s capabilities compared to those of Business Central it’s a no-brainer that GP users should upgrade to Business Central. Here’s some of those reasons:

Typewriter vs Laptop

Business Central’s Advanced Features

Modern User Interface

Business Central was built on the Dynamics NAV platform with a brand new modern user interface that combines all the news about your business into once place with overviews that help you prioritize and insights that matter. Such things as your top key performance indicators, headline news, and important documents are standard on the home page which really help to provide a unique experience to you.

Integrations

Another advanced feature of Business Central is its ability to integrate with other Microsoft Software such as Power BI, Dynamics 365, Office 365, and Microsoft 365. These software integrations allow Business Central to gather all of the most important information and integrate it with your systems ERP, therefore, allowing you to become more productive by not having to open, close, and switch between business software apps.

Artificial Intelligence

Technology is rapidly evolving and a big part of this segment that is evolving is Artificial Intelligence. Business Central harnesses this technology for use with Sales and Inventory forecasting and predicting late payments.

What is the Microsoft Dynamics GP Modern Policy? The Modern Policy is a software lifecycle policy that allows you to stay on current versions of your GP software and offers continuous support.

Business Central’s Cloud Capability

The rise of the cloud as the dominant force in computing seems to have happened more quickly than anyone expected. With Business Central being a cloud-based ERP software, you can access your tenant from anywhere and as we’ve all seen in 2020 being able to work remotely at a moments notice is a phenomenal luxury to have! Plus, you never have to worry about upgrading as you are always on the latest version.

Business Central’s Dynamics GP Migration Capabilities

If you’ve read the above bits of information you most likely explored other reasons to upgrade. So, what’s holding you back? If I had to guess it’s the time, cost, and issues associated with migration. Did you know that Dynamics GP 14, 15, and 16 can do a direct migration to Business Central and GP customers on 2015 and forward can use the 1 step migration to Business Central online.

These migration tools offered by Microsoft will mark and patch GP segments to dimensions, allow you to bring over every Customer and Address (you don’t have to bring over inactive customers) so that your setup in Business Central is exactly the same as in GP. Your items and inventory information will have all site info brought over including quantities on-hand, serial tracked items, and lot tracked items. What about ISV information? No need to worry, the ISV Data Migration tool maps your data from GP to Business Central.
