[Podcast] Internet of Things - IoT

Updated: Aug 5, 2021

Season 1, Episode 4: Two Guys, Coffee & Business

ERP & the Internet of Things IoT - Manufacturing

On this podcast we are going to be discussing the Internet of Things (IoT). The IoT is basically the connection between devices through the internet. For instance, your phone controlling your homes thermostat. This seems like it would definitely be a positive for most people but what happens when you infuse Artificial Intelligence (AI) into the equation? What happens to the workforce when machines are able realize their mistake and correct it? And why does it have to be only machines? Think about the endless possibilities an enterprise resource planning system (ERP) could have if it could learn and then learn from its mistakes!

this episode of two guys coffee and

00:02

business we're talking Internet of

00:05

Things two guys coffee and business

00:17

podcast all right everybody welcome back

00:20

this is episode 4 I believe right now

00:23

that's right I'm so for two guys coffee

00:26

and business podcast my name is Michael

00:29

Trevor toll I'm here with the Tom

00:31

Norrish the illustrious family doors so

00:35

what are you drinking today Michael

00:36

today is it's very special to me I got

00:39

this coffee you can read my comic opera

00:42

now it's from this place called Wally's

00:45

in genre yeah I checked it out for the

00:47

first time over the weekend it's decided

00:49

to stop in weigh in today for the

00:51

podcast they make a great polka oh yeah

00:54

great hold on so I'm drinking welcome we

00:57

did the Chris Kettler market wasn't

01:00

risky no more yeah I mean good

01:01

coffee there I did not get coffee that I

01:03

got a hot cider hot chocolate that's

01:05

what I always go for as well hot hot

01:08

cider really yeah

01:10

it's tough problem is though you know

01:12

it's two dollars for the the smallest

01:15

paper cup of ever seen in my life

01:17

yeah he figured it's like something that

01:20

you seen like watching them I've watched

01:23

so instead we're gonna talk about

01:25

Internet of Things what you think about

01:28

it yeah it's uh it's pretty cool it's

01:31

very related to artificial intelligence

01:33

kind of talk about a couple podcasts ago

01:36

but uh there's obviously a bunch of

01:40

differences the way I like to look at it

01:44

is I kind of feel like some Internet of

01:49

Things is like our bodies and how our

01:51

bodies actually take in like senses from

01:55

the world like touch and it brings in

01:58

data and our brains are like artificial

02:00

intelligence right the brains telling

02:02

what to do and that interesting yeah so

02:10

so basically so I guess perfect in that

02:13

perspective

02:14

electronics it would be we we can

02:19

control the electronic right now saying

02:21

take a picture for us let us know when

02:23

there's no food refrigerator well when

02:25

you infuse artificial intelligence we

02:28

don't have to

02:30

take the picture to see the food the

02:32

refrigerator will automatically know

02:33

when the food is out or so have they

02:36

tell us it's basically right money crazy

02:38

so what's your favorite uh internet of

02:40

things you like or anything it's pretty

02:48

cool that's uh kind of where I see it

02:52

going is is I really feel like a

02:56

different manufacturer they'll be able

03:00

to get notifications whenever their

03:04

product needs repairs even simple

03:08

ordering you know can be done just

03:10

automatically whenever they're low you

03:12

can communicate with that's amazing so

03:16

do you think in the future businesses

03:18

manufacturing companies whatever are

03:19

gonna be completely infused with the

03:22

Internet of Things to where somebody

03:24

walks in the building in the morning and

03:26

everything just turns on machines you're

03:29

going and people yeah I mean so I do

03:33

think you will need people cuz you still

03:35

need to monitor it make sure that it's

03:38

not messing up because don't get right

03:41

you never know again but uh yeah I do

03:44

think that uh everything's gonna be a

03:46

lot more automated yeah well don't

03:48

pretty much just be the people of

03:50

monitoring the automation pretty cool

03:54

so the coolest thing that I've seen for

03:57

the Internet of Things is on our

03:59

computers printer is it's called a

04:01

bellow it looks like a big blast tub

04:05

with a white base you put your food into

04:08

it

04:08

this looks like you take a meat put it

04:11

in there wrapping put it in the water in

04:14

the machine and then put eggs or

04:16

whatever you want in the machine with it

04:17

as well and you can control from your

04:19

phone saying I'll be home at six o'clock

04:22

have this cooked well done from your

04:24

robot it's almost like a personal chef

04:27

it's amazing it's only four dollars I

04:31

can't believe it yeah that makes you

04:33

think about money interesting that's a

04:37

limited time offer versus 300 hours if

04:39

you order before December 16 for the

04:41

holidays I'm sure it does I mean the way

04:51

that all the advancements everything

04:54

recently the Internet of Things I think

04:57

is really helping out making everything

05:00

work correctly without a doubt it does

05:05

worry me though because once you infuse

05:07

artificial intelligence with your

05:10

and I think jobs are gonna be able I

05:13

really do you know you can on the other

05:16

end a little bit

05:17

I think it'll change yeah but I don't

05:22

think everything's gonna disappear I

05:24

just think it'll be different it's

05:27

different always good I mean it's not

05:30

always good no but uh I mean the bowls

05:33

were different when you Jordan that's a

05:37

whole nother topic I really do think

05:45

that a job will still be around it's

05:48

just a matter of what they'll be doing

05:50

yeah so if the local visits wanted to

05:57

start with an Internet of Things device

06:00

what would you suggest a simple light

06:04

and what's a good way for somebody to

06:06

just get involved

06:09

that's a good question I I think it

06:11

probably depends on or your diffic what

06:13

you're doing I could say the way I

06:16

started was and purchased Google and I

06:19

got Google home and I'm either you can

06:21

talk to it and do whatever you already

06:23

go from there right so what I did is

06:25

that body first I bought one Wi-Fi blog

06:29

just to check it out it's a clockwise

06:31

when I plug in and plug the lamp if you

06:33

would set it to a timer and connected

06:36

everything and pretty good it actually

06:38

got me addicted and then I started

06:40

wiring my under-cabinet lights to a kid

06:43

and I'll interview normally everything

06:45

was working great too because office can

06:46

I turn on or you can set it to run

06:48

automatically whatever you want it was

06:49

easy was it easy to connect it it is

06:52

it's difficult because when you connect

06:54

it you have to connect it through the

06:55

Wi-Fi and usually I would ever think the

06:57

connected through bluetooth it's machine

07:03

I guess you don't mean right you just

07:05

connect it through Wi-Fi and then was

07:08

that I meant it has to work with your

07:10

program if this then yeah yeah right so

07:13

you know what you say if if you say this

07:16

then it does that right you know couple

07:19

minutes to serve each device

07:21

or great and has it been helping you out

07:24

uh yeah we're instance right now my

07:27

Christmas lights are set to go on at

07:29

4:30 and everyday from 4:30 to midnight

07:32

and then from 6:00 a.m. and 7:30 and

07:36

start going off right at me you know

07:38

exactly yeah where's the shining star

07:43

when I need it so it works great not to

07:47

change topics but Laura might change

07:49

something jumps ship here

07:53

this thing will cook poach eggs perfect

07:55

steak delicate lobster apple pie filling

07:59

so is it only preset recipes that it can

08:03

come or gonna cook anything

08:05

oh that's pretty

08:12

do you get a paleo food says make cheese

08:17

and yogurt

08:19

ha

08:21

another things yeah oh yeah I mean kind

08:27

of something I noticed just now what

08:28

we're using is a chromecast I think to

08:33

Ferrara

08:34

that's the animated TV now for you to

08:37

say a little bit artificial intelligence

08:39

to it those that every Wednesday would

08:41

use a podcast it just pops up for us

08:43

wouldn't have to do it'd be great

08:45

bend down you're gonna see it so I feel

08:48

like do you think that Internet of

08:51

Things and our official intelligence

08:55

kinda think of how to work this maybe

08:57

yeah lines need to work together to make

09:01

so you can't have one without the other

09:03

well you can you know for it's like when

09:11

I press the button on my on my phone or

09:12

whatever it's around like my house I

09:14

mean Isis internet things that are

09:15

professional intelligence right every in

09:19

knowing exactly when I come home every

09:21

day and learning my patterns and turning

09:24

the lights on by itself would be more

09:26

artificial intelligence to me

09:28

right kind of like a Cortana learning

09:32

your patterns and dynamics and have and

09:34

it's able to predict able to forecast

09:36

what what I don't you lead and things

09:39

like that seem to me that's all machine

09:43

learning which is kind of separate but

09:46

the same anything they're all different

09:55

I mean how else do you see a lot of

09:59

businesses using them there are other

10:01

things in the future

10:02

ah kind of like that I think eventually

10:07

the days of you know somebody going in

10:10

the warehouse to see what items you have

10:11

in stock are gonna be gone I think with

10:14

drones and technology of movements we're

10:16

gonna fit something on your phone and

10:17

it's just gonna go and look for your

10:19

fire song and you'll be able to see it

10:20

in real time right there right that in

10:22

there you know I mean it sick Amazon's

10:26

using the drones to deliver packages or

10:28

wants to divert clearance it

10:31

but it's so it worries me about jobs now

10:36

yes I could sell anything in the

10:38

warehouse he confessed everything it's

10:45

so let's just say for manufacturing

10:47

saver you're you're making some progress

10:48

that you're making you're making a

10:53

widget and you've got somebody there

10:56

running the machine making sure that

10:57

everything's subtracted and it's lined

10:58

up and it comes out perfect each time

11:00

over time if you infused artificial

11:02

intelligence into the machine machines

11:04

probably be able to know when it's off

11:06

by 1/100 of a danger or whatnot on how

11:09

to adjust it and figure out all right

11:14

and then when until though when you need

11:16

more parts for to make that widget right

11:18

24 hours yeah okay kind of crazy yeah we

11:24

got a fine start looking at off

11:27

alternative industry see what's gonna

11:31

have to create all the way in this

11:32

region for right see like items like I

11:34

said everything's gonna change

11:36

no I don't think that anything's gonna

11:38

disappear right we don't know what that

11:43

different will be no it's like a you

11:46

know the nineties when the internet came

11:47

and everybody said all libraries are

11:50

gonna go away in this mess yeah you got

11:57

all those ebooks yeah publishing

11:59

companies might be struggling a little

12:00

bit with certain things right yeah I

12:03

think today was a good talk to you have

12:05

anything else all right next week we're

12:18

gonna have special guest Tristan Rock

12:20

Hill from Java forts

12:22

come on in and talk to us and everybody

12:25

else about Jai reports gonna give a you

12:29

know basic overview of what it does how

12:33

it works

12:37

well alright everybody this was episode

12:40

for season one keep doing what you're

12:42

doing I'm here with Tom Norwich the

12:44

elusive and my name is Mike MacIvor

12:48

total so we so see you next week thanks

12:51

everybody
