In Business Central We Give Thanks

Updated: Aug 10, 2021

With Thanksgiving rapidly approaching in the United States what are some of the things you are thankful for? Here at Solution Systems we are giving thanks to Microsoft’s most popular ERP solution that is found within their Dynamics 365 family, Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central. Business Central has extended upon all the wonderful features that were included within Dynamics NAV and has set the standard for all ERP software by incorporating a fresh new look for the modern client. So, why are we so thankful for Dynamics 365 Business Central? There are three main reasons and those are…

Give thanks during Thanksgiving

Reliability

Business Central Cloud is hosted on Microsoft’s cloud know as Azure and Azure is the most reliable cloud solution in the world. In fact, it’s so reliable that Microsoft recently beat out Amazon for a giant $10 billion US government cloud contract. According to Mark Russinovich, Chief Technology Officer, Microsoft Azure, “Over the past 12 months, Azure has operated core compute services at 99.995 percent average uptime across our global cloud infrastructure. However, at the scale Azure operates, we recognize that uptime alone does not tell the full story. We experienced three unique and significant incidents that impacted customers during this time period, a datacenter outage in the South Central US region in September 2018, Azure Active Directory (Azure AD) Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) challenges in November 2018, and DNS maintenance issues in May 2019.”

99.995 percent uptime is a very impressive number considering the implementation of Azure Multi-Factor Authentication.

Ease of Upgrading

Whether upgrading from Dynamics NAV to Business Central or from an older version of Business Central to the current version Microsoft has provided the tools to make upgrading much simpler than it has been in years past. According to Microsoft, you use data conversion tools provided with Business Central to convert the old data with the old version’s table and field structure, so that it functions together with the new version’s table and field structure. Mainly, only table objects and table data are modified during the data upgrade process. Other objects, such as pages, reports, codeunits, and XMLports are upgraded as part of the application code upgrade process.

In fact, upgrading from Dynamics NAV to Business Central runs so smoothly and has such little impact on your business that one of our customers just had to tell us about it! Here’s what Jim Gio, Director, Management Information Systems, Triangle Package Machinery Company said, “I know this won’t come as a shock to you, but I wanted to let you know what a fantastic job everyone at SSI did to make the cut-over to BC go as smoothly as possible. We never missed a beat and for the majority of our users, this upgrade was a nonevent.”

Ease of Implementation

When implementing Business Central Cloud the tenant can be functional with standard configurations for most business processes within 1 day but most organizations change these configurations to suit the needs of their company. For example, your chart of accounts is prefilled with a number of posting accounts ready for use. You can, of course, change the chart of accounts to suite your needs.

Past years struggles of implementing ERP software have become less of a struggle because on the Role Center of Business Central, you can access assisted setup guides that will help you configure certain scenarios and add features to your Business Central tenant. For more information on this see the Getting Ready for Doing Business document.

Microsoft has even retooled their Rapid Start tool to help bring over data from existing legacy ERP software. According to Microsoft, you can set up a new company in Business Central with RapidStart Services, which is a tool designed to shorten deployment times, improve quality of implementation, introduce a repeatable approach to implementations, and enhance productivity by automating and simplifying recurring tasks. For more information, see Setting Up a Company With RapidStart Services.
