NAV 2013 and 2013 R2 Login Problems With Corrupt, Missing, or Deleted ClientUserSettings.config

These notes apply to Users on a Terminal Server that also has Microsoft Dynamics NAV Service Tiers installed locally. In the way where the ClientUserSettings.config is the same on all systems running NAV 2009R2 and higher.

If you are running the RoleTailored Client locally on a laptop or pc, you may simply edit or delete the ClientUserSettings.config file from the following location:

C:\users\username\AppData\roaming\Microsoft\Microsoft Dynamics NAV\71

When working with NAV 2013 and NAV 2013R2, you may need to delete or rename the ClientUserSettings.config file. This file contains the “last” server connection, as well as all server connections the user has previously made with the Role Tailored Client.

If you find yourself unable to re-connect to a Service Tier, with such errors as: user does not exist, you do not have permissions, etc. you may want to try the following.

Note: If you’ve deleted the file from C:\users\username\AppData\roaming\Microsoft\Microsoft Dynamics NAV\71 Move to step 2.

Step 1:

Navigate to c:\users\username\AppData\roaming\Microsoft\Microsoft Dynamics NAV\

Using Notepad as an editor, open the ClientUserSettings.config file.

You will see results similar to the following:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>

<configuration>

<appSettings>

Change the value of “localhost” to the Net Name of the server that is hosting the Service Tier.

<add key="Server" value="localhost" />

Make sure the port number is correct for the Service Tier you are connecting to.

<add key="ClientServicesPort" value="7046" />

Modify the value of ServiceInstance to the servicename of the Service Tier you are trying to connect to.

<add key="ServerInstance" value="ssiconv" />

<add key="TenantId" value="" />

<add key="ClientServicesProtectionLevel" value="EncryptAndSign" />

<add key="UrlHistory" value="" />

<add key="ClientServicesCompressionThreshold" value="64" />

<add key="ClientServicesChunkSize" value="28" />

<add key="ClientServicesKeepAliveInterval" value="120" />

<add key="MaxNoOfXMLRecordsToSend" value="5000" />

<add key="MaxImageSize" value="26214400" />

<add key="ClientServicesCredentialType" value="Windows" />

<add key="ACSUri" value="" />

<add key="AllowNtlm" value="true" />

<add key="ServicePrincipalNameRequired" value="False" />

<add key="ServicesCertificateValidationEnabled" value="true" />

<add key="DnsIdentity" value="" />

<add key="HelpServer" value="SSI-DEV2013R2" />

<add key="HelpServerPort" value="49000" />

<add key="ProductName" value="" />

<add key="UnknownSpnHint" value="(net.tcp://localhost:7046/ssiconv/Service)=NoSpn;" /></appSettings>

</configuration>

After you make the above changes, save the ClientUserSettings.config file and Try to reopen the RoleTailoed Client. If you are still unable to connect, try method 2 below.

Step 2:

Delete the ClientUserSettings.config file from: C:\users\username\AppData\roaming\Microsoft\Microsoft Dynamics NAV\71

Then, navigate to: C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Microsoft Dynamics NAV\71

Make a backup copy of the ClientUserSegttings.config file

Open the original ClientUserSetting.config file using Notepad as an Editor.

Locate the three following Keys and correct them to match your environment.

<add key="Server" value="localhost" />

<add key="ClientServicesPort" value="7046" />

<add key="ServerInstance" value="ssiconv" />

Save the ClientUserSettings.config file and open the RoleTailored Client.

Note: This is the master ClientUserSetting.config file that will be used to build an individual’s ClientUserSettings.config file in their Roaming Profile. Depending upon your environment, you may want to restore the original file after the problem for the individual user(s) has been corrected.

If you are running the RoleTailored Client locally on a laptop/pc, you may simply edit or delete the ClientUserSettings.config file from the following location:

C:\users\username\AppData\roaming\Microsoft\Microsoft Dynamics NAV\71
